PHILADELPHIA – Oprah Winfrey seems a wee bit testy in an e-mail exchange with The
Hollywood Reporter about how the Philadelphia Eagles’ Michael Vick canceled his
planned appearance on her show. Winfrey told The Reporter says her producers worked
for months with Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Vick on his planned Feb. 24 appearance
on her show. The highly sought after interview would have been a huge get for Winfrey,
who is leaving syndicated TV and trying to drive people to her own cable network. Vick
canceled the taping on Tuesday, which was scheduled for February 22. A source told Fox
29 News on Wednesday that the decision to cancel was made at the Philadelphia Eagles’
request. Winfrey herself told the Reporter she already pre-taped segments with Vick.
Winfrey said that she found out Vick had canceled via an email from her executive pro-
ducer, Sheri Salata. “He said personal reasons. We’re not going to push it,” Winfrey said,
adding that her staff “had been working behind the scenes for months” on the interview.
“We did a field trip with him. We had been shooting with Michael Vick. And the fact that
he pulled out and all his people…” Winfrey said. “We move on.”
