This is why I don’t mess with dogs…

A 19-year-old woman is in the hospital after being bitten by a dog.  It happened Wed-

nesday at a home on the 5200 block of Arlington in Philadelphia.  The woman’s entire

ear was bitten off by her 6-month-old pit bull mix dog.  One witness says she was suff-

ering a seizure which frightened the dog, causing the animal to bite her.  The woman

was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where her condition is

unknown. Police recovered the woman’s ear and took it to the hospital. No word yet

on whether the ear will be reattached.  The dog was taken by the Pennsylvania SPCA

and will be evaluated for 10 days. Witnesses say the dog is not a vicious animal and

was quiet and shaking when taken away by the SPCA.

Philadelphia police say an 8-year-old boy was struck by a car in West Philadelphia

Saturday night.  It happened around 9 p.m.  on the 1400 block of North Hobart Street. 

Witness say the boy ran in front of the vehicle. The driver initially fled the scene but

was arrested moments later.  The young victim was transported to Children’s Hospi-

tal of Philadelphia and is listed in stable condition.

A man accused of shooting up a West Philadelphia bar with an AK-47 turned him-

self in to police Saturday.  Richard Jones, 26, surrendered to police at their head-

quarters at 8th and Race Streets around 1p.m. The suspect’s family contacted

called the news to say Jones wanted to turn himself into authorities.  NBCPhila-

delphia contacted police so they could arrange his surrender.  “He turned himself

in, he knows what he did was wrong. I just fear for the safety of my child,” Richard

Height, the suspect’s father said.  Jones drove up to a bar on Westminster and

Belmont Avenue Tuesday night. He got out of the car carrying an AK-47. Police

say when Jones reached the door and could not enter the bar he began shooting.

No one was injured in the shooting.  When Jones finished shooting he drove off in

his car. While speeding off Jones fired one shot at police officers but missed.  Jones

then went to a home in Manayunk where he allegedly terrorized a woman who

was inside at the time. The suspect then headed to Lafayette Hills were his car

broke down.  The suspect’s father said Jones went to the bar because someone

there called and him and said his brother was being held hostage.  “It was a set

up to lure him to the bar so that they can kill him. I have no idea [how this happ

ened], this is something that was going on in the street,” Height said.  Police have

recovered the weapon.  Jones ditched it in Suburban Philadelphia.

WEST PHILADELPHIA – October 9, 2011 – Two people are in the hospital suffering

from gunshot wounds after an apparent domestic dispute in West Philadelphia.

The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. along the 6300 block of Market Street.

Philadelphia police say a man and woman, said to be boyfriend and girlfriend,

were shot.  They are both in critical condition.  The gunman fled on foot and police

continue to investigate.

OVERBROOK – October 8, 2011 – A woman who ran a day care center was killed

Saturday night – the innocent victim of gunfire in Philadelphia’s Overbrook

section.  The shooting happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. on the 5800 block of

Malvern Avenue.  The 31-year-old woman was shot in the shoulder and back.

She was driven in a private car to Lankanau Hospital, where she died.  Two men

with guns ran from the scene and remain at large.  At this time there is no word

on a motive.  The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
