“Rielle’s place is only a hop, skip and a jump from John’s home, and it’s pretty much

turned into his booze and sex romp hideaway,” a source close to the couple told The

ENQUIRER.

“When they get a little tipsy, they get so frisky that their lovemaking becomes embarr-

assingly loud. One day, an elderly neighbor walked right up to Rielle, and snickered,

‘Try to keep it down next time.’ John was mortified when Rielle told him the story,

but she clearly got a kick out of it.”

As The ENQUIRER recently reported, the former North Carolina senator, 59, didn’t

like making the three-hour drive to Rielle’s home in Charlotte to visit the blonde div-

orcee, 48, and their 4-year-old love child Quinn.

So he moved them closer to the palatial Chapel Hill spread he once shared with his

late wife Elizabeth, who lost her brave battle with breast cancer in December 2010.

Edwards and his two youngest children with Elizabeth – Emma Claire, 14, and Jack,

12 – spent Thanksgiving with Rielle and Quinn at their new home, insiders say. But

Emma and Jack refuse to spend the night there, and his oldest daughter Cate, 30,

still won’t even acknowledge Rielle, sources say.

“Elizabeth is still very beloved in Chapel Hill,” noted the source, “and if Rielle wants

to be accepted here, she needs to change her behavior.”

When John Edwards learned that Rielle Hunter was pregnant with his child, he reacted

with disbelief – and a verbal swipe at his mistress, a witness testified Tuesday.  “She’s a

‘crazy slut,’ ” former aide Andrew Young says Edwards told him.  Testifying Tuesday in the

second day of Edwards’s criminal trial in Greensboro, N.C., Young recalled delivering the

news to Edwards in the summer of 2007 after Hunter called Young at home.  Describing

his phone conversation with Edwards, Young testified, “He was very concerned. He was

angry.”  During that call, Young testified that Edwards said, “There’s a one-in-three chance

[the child] was his.”  Young, who at one point claimed to be the father of Hunter’s child, is

the government’s star witness in the case against Edwards. The former Democratic U.S.

senator is charged with illegally using campaign contributions to cover up his affair with

Hunter while he was running for president.  Hunter, who shares parenting responsibilities

with Edwards for their daughter Frances Quinn, is also expected to testify.  Young testified

that Elizabeth Edwards had discovered her husband had an affair with the campaign video-

grapher in 2006. But she was unaware that Hunter and Edwards were still in contact in the

summer of 2007, Young testified, because he set up the phone calls between them through

what they called the “bat phone,” a separate cell phone.  Elizabeth died in 2010 at age 61 after

a long battle with breast cancer.  Edwards, 58, has pleaded innocent. His attorney said in open-

ing statements that Edwards has “committed many sins” but did not break federal laws.

Rielle Hunter (JOHN EDWARDS MISTRESS)

Just hours after being indicted by a federal grand jury, former presidential contender

John Edwards emerged to insist, “I did not break the law.”  Edwards, 58, was indicted

by a grand jury in Raleigh, N.C., for allegedly using more than $900,000 in campaign

funds to hide his mistress during the 2008 Democratic presidential race.  “There’s no

question that I’ve done wrong and I take full responsibility for having done wrong,”

Edwards said a brief news conference today. “And I will regret for the rest of my life

the pain and the harm that I’ve caused to others. But I did not break the law and I never,

ever thought that I was breaking the law.” He declined to answer questions.  The

charges, following a two-year investigation, include conspiracy, illegal campaign con-

tributions and making false statements. Edwards faces a maximum penalty of five

years in jail and or a fine of up to $250,000 for each charge, if convicted.
