An aspiring dentist was stabbed to death at his apartment allegedly at the hands of
his teenage friends who tweeted him just minutes before saying: ‘This time of the
night is when phone calls and texts are regretted in the morning.’
Connor McGowan, 18, has been arrested for the murder of Andrew Singler, 23, both
from Detroit, who he was believed to have been friends with for at least two years.
Singler, a 23-year-old Michigan State University senior, was stabbed to death at 4am
on Saturday morning at his Meridian Township apartment.
At 3.17am McGowan, a 2012 Okemos high school graduate, tweeted the ambiguous
quote at his friend.
He is being held without bond at the Ingham County Jail after being charged with
murder. Police are releasing limited details about the stabbing or the motive behind
the murder. At 4:13am on Saturday, police responded to a ‘subject that received a
life-threatening injury’ in the 6200 block of Rothbury Way, according to a news re-
Singler was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.
The former high school football player would often talk to the victim on Twitter and
some exchanges hint to the fact the pair were good friends and hung out together on
occasion. Singler was an aspiring pediatric dentist who was looking to go to graduate
school after his May graduation, said his mother, Janis Singler, of Rochester. He was
the youngest of five children.
His sister-in-law Melissa Lukes told the Lansing State Journal:’He’s so good with kids,
his nieces and his nephews. That’s why he wanted to become a pediatric dentist — be-
cause he loved kids.’
Tributes poured in for Andrew on a memorial page and on Twitter.
Brandon Green tweeted: ‘Waking up tomorrow might be the hardest thing I’ve ever
done. I can’t stop thinking about how much I miss you man.’
Shay Leigh, who was friends with both of them wrote: ‘I will miss you so much. I love
you with all of my heart and always will.’
