In the face of speculation that her marriage to NBA player Carmelo Anthony is on
the rocks, reality star La La Anthony at least keeps a sense of humor about things.
‘Not for nothing, but we ALL deserve a check or some free cereal 4all the publicity
we’ve given Honey Nut Cheerios! LOL #cantbelieveeverything,’ she wrote on Twitter,
also posting a pic of her tweet to Instagram.
Carmelo waited for Boston Celtics star Kevin Garnett near his team’s bus on Monday
night after Garnett reportedly said Anthony’s wife ‘tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios’
during the game between Anthony’s New York Knicks and the Celtics. Carmelo has
been suspended one game and will lose $177,000 of salary.
The couple have been reportedly living separately, but friend’s close to the Knick’s
wife say she wants to stay together. ‘It is true they haven’t seen much of each other
in the past few months,’ a friend of the couple told the New York Post. ‘She’s been
away a lot filming her show, ‘La La’s Full Court Life,’ in London, New York and LA.
They are not separated and are still together. She and Melo have a house in LA —
so she’s always there when she’s doing auditions.’ Still another anonymous source
says the couple’s relationship is far rockier.
‘They have been living separately for several months now,’ says a source. ‘She’s
been living in LA while Carmelo has been in New York. La La used to go out to the
games and wanted to be seen . . . now she’s always off doing her own thing.’
After the confrontation it was reported Anthony didn’t believe he would be sus-
pended because he said he was just looking to talk to Garnett, not fight. But NBA
executive vice president of operations Stu Jackson ruled otherwise.
‘There are no circumstances in which it is acceptable for a player to confront an
opponent after a game,’ Jackson said in a statement. ‘Carmelo Anthony attempted
to engage with Kevin Garnett multiple times after Monday’s game and therefore a
suspension was warranted.’
Anthony will miss the Knicks’ nationally televised game at Indiana on Thursday
and lose about $176,700 of his $19.4 million salary. Jackson said Anthony con-
fronted Garnett ‘in the arena tunnel, near the players’ locker rooms, and in the
parking garage.’ The incident by the bus, with New York police and Knicks coach
Mike Woodson nearby, was captured on videotape.
From replays of the conflict, it’s not clear what set Anthony off, but one suggestion
was that Garnett insulted his wife, reality star La La Vasquez, with a reference to
the popular breakfast cereal.
BlackSportsOnline.com reported that Garnett told Anthony, ‘you’re wife tastes like
Honey Nut Cheerios,’ citing sources that were present for the game.
After a team practice yesterday, Anthony would not say what it was that set him
off.
