HUNTING PARK – July 14, 2012 – Philadelphia Police say they were forced to shoot and
kill a suspect after he allegedly pointed his gun at officers during a traffic stop. It happened
around 11:30 Friday night in the city’s Hunting Park section. Police tell Action News that a
sergeant from the 25th district pulled over a 28-year old man on the 4400 block of Rising
Sun Avenue. The sergeant approached the vehicle and reported smelling marijuana. He
called for backup and when two other officers arrived, the suspect allegedly got out of his
vehicle and pulled out a handgun. Two of the police officers opened fire on the suspect,
striking him six times. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect’s identity has
not been released.
