Police are crediting a 5-year-old girl for possibly saving her father’s life after he allegedly
shot heroin and passed out on the basement floor of a Drexel Hill home. Authorities say
31-year-old Jason Ferranti was found unconscious by his daughter on the basement floor
of a home on the 4000 block of Vernon Road around 9:30 Wednesday night, reports the
Delaware County Daily Times. According to the paper, the girl tried to wake her dad.
When she couldn’t she called 911. She told police her father fell off a chair and had a bloody
eye. She also told them she thought he was dead, reports the Delco Times. When police
arrived, one of the officers — a trained EMT – shook Ferranti, at which time he regained
consciousness. “The defendant was shooting up heroin and fell down. The little girl saw
the whole thing,” Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood told the Daily Times. They
arrested the man after he admitted to shooting heroin during a visitation with his
daughter, reports the Times. “…She’s a smart little girl. Her dad was in trouble and she
called for help. She was alone. Who knows what could have happened? She could have
picked up the needle.” Ferranti was arraigned on multiple charges including endanger-
ing the welfare of a child.
