OLNEY – October 1, 2011 – Philadelphia Police are investigating an overnight
robbery that ended in gunfire, leaving one man dead and two others injured.
It happened just around 4:00 a.m. outside an apartment building on the 5000
block of North 5th Street in Olney. Police tell Action News that three males were
entering the building when they were approached by two armed men, demand-
ing money and jewelry. During the robbery attempt, at least one of the suspects
opened fire striking each of the victims before fleeing the scene. The victims were
all taken to Einstein Hospital, where one was pronounced dead. The remaining
victims are in critical and stable condition. Two rings were found near the scene,
but police are unsure if the suspects made off with anything else. The incident
remains under investigation.
