2 Bronx Teachers Arrested In Separate Incidents

-

NEW YORK – Two more New York City teachers are facing criminal charges in

separate incidents.   Both were teachers at a multi-school campus at 800 Home

Street in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. In one case, 27-year-old substitute

teacher Chukwuma Duru is accused of forcibly touching a student at the Bronx

Career and College Prep High School.  In the other, a 12-year-old student at the

Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health and Science Charter School says 53-year-old tea-

cher Evelyn Tirado punched her.  Duru was charged with forcible touching and

endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly pinching a 16-year-old boy’s

ipples. Authorities say Duru squeezed and twisted the boy’s nipples on February

10 until he was in pain. He was arrested three days later.  The assault did not

appear sexual in nature, and Duru was removed from the school.  Tirado was

arrested Tuesday and charged with assaulting the girl during a dispute. The

student claimed Tirado hit her, shoved her to the ground and sat on her last

Thursday.  Tirado surrendered to police on Sunday and was issued a desk appear-

ance ticket. Detectives then too her into custody Tuesday. The arrests come after

three other arrests of school employees this month.
